Section 370-16 of the
NEC
deals with Number of Conductors in Outlet, Device and Junction
Boxes, and Conduit Bodies. "Boxes and conduit bodies shall be of
sufficient size to provide free space for all enclosed
conductors" .. It then goes on to present a table
listing various common box sizes, their cubic inch capacities and the
maximum number of conductors allowed per box. And a table of volume
allowed per conductor to be used for performing calculations where
there are mixed sizes, and adjustments to make for Clamps, etc.
