a) TransAlta Finds EUB Ruling Unacceptable

CALGARY, Alberta -- In its recent decision, the Alberta Energy and Utilities Board (EUB) handed TransAlta the lowest rate of return set by any regulator in the country. The decision establishes the rate of return at 9¼ per cent for TransAlta's regulated operations in 1999 and 2000.

b) Hydro-Québec ends first nine months of 1999 with consolidated net income of $505 million

The first nine months of 1999 ended with consolidated net income of $505 million, up $174 million from September 30, 1998. This progression stemmed mainly from the strong growth of the Québec economy since the beginning of the year as well as from a return to more normal weather conditions in comparison with 1998.

c) Eastern Utilities Announces Buyout of Nuclear Power Purchase Contract

BOSTON, - Eastern Utilities Associates (NYSE: EUA) has announced the signing of agreements with Boston Edison Co. (NYSE: BSE) to buy out of its power entitlement from the Pilgrim nuclear power station in Plymouth, Mass. The buyout agreement was executed in conjunction with the acquisition of Pilgrim by Entergy Nuclear Generating Co., a subsidiary of New Orleans-based Entergy Corp. (NYSE: ETR).

d) NYPA And Entergy Enter Into Exclusive Negotiations For Nuclear Power Plant Purchases

New York, N.Y. --The New York Power Authority and Entergy Corporation (NYSE: ETR) announced that they are entering into exclusive negotiations related to the potential sale of the Power Authority’s James A. FitzPatrick and Indian Point 3 nuclear power plants in Oswego County and Westchester County respectively.
